"Dear Friends, this little note is to inform you that I’m changing my preferred name to Mandy, and my pronouns to she/her/hers. In an ideal world, I’d have time to sit down with each of you and tell you in person. If you wish that had happened, or just want to get together to chat about my transition, or anything else, PM me and we can set up a time to meet for coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks, a Skype session, or whatever and catch up. I’d love to see you.
Messages of support are welcome on social media. Appropriate questions are fine but for those, please DM me. If we see each other in person, I’ll really appreciate you using my name (Mandy) and pronouns (She/Her/Hers). Current best practice if you slip up is to just correct yourself as quickly as possible. No apology is necessary after that. I know it’s tricky, Esp at first. It’s likely you might still see me performing as a guy now and then, Esp. until I get a female stage presence worked out.
Much love to you all, and special love to those of you who showed me through example and through your lives what it means to live a vibrant authentic life. To any who might be feeling uncomfortable with this, I certainly understand that and don’t want to get in the way of your process, however, please keep it to yourself. There’s no reason for me to need to know about it.
Thanks! And wishing you all much light, love, and laughter for the holiday season!"
A lot has happened since then. Including a pandemic that provided some much needed space. We'll update you more later. But for right now... Mandy and Mary aren't currently performing as Otter Creek, but you can still hear Mandy's songs, arrangements, and multi-instrumental skills in her own shows. And you can still hear Mary's award winning fiddling in the many bands she plays in.
